Fred Hamilton
Fred Hamilton is a professor of jazz studies and director of jazz guitar at the University of North Texas. He has published magazine articles in Guitar Player, compositions for big band, small group and guitar ensemble with the University of Northern Colorado Jazz Press, the book Melodic Studies & Compositions for Guitar and is featured in the Master Anthology of Jazz Guitar Solos Volume Three with Mel Bay Publications. He has played double bass and guitar with the Earl Harvin Trio since 1993, and he plays guitar, banjo and slide guitars with the ensemble Brahma. He has performed concerts and gigs with many jazz artists throughout the U.S. and Canada including Don Alias, Bob Mover, Art Lande, Paul McCandless, James Moody, Bill Frisell, Frank Mantooth, Hal Galper, Joe Lovano, Kenny Wheeler and David Liebman. He has taught at Concordia College in Montreal, St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Bowling Green State University in Ohio and was a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Northern Colorado where he earned his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in composition. He was a member of the NORAD Command Band while in the U.S. Air Force, studied guitar with Jim Atkins in Denver, Colorado and has been playing professionally since high school.
