Rodney Jones played material from every phase of his career on Live at Smoke, making his first DVD as a leader an impressively eclectic recording.
In addition to his solo career, Rodney has built a solid reputation as an A-list session player. He spent three years touring and recording with Dizzy Gillespie, recorded five albums during five years on the road with James Brown horn star Maceo Parker, backed up numerous funk legends as guitarist for the TV program Showtime at the Apollo, and served as musical director for Ruth Brown. He is one of Lena Horne's favorite accompanists and has worked with Chico Hamilton, Jaki Byard, Arthur Blythe, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Idris Muhammad, James Brown, and other top performers.
